FAQs

How much do motorized blinds cost on Long Island?

Motorized shades cost more than manual versions of the same product, with the difference depending on the motor system and number of windows. We provide exact pricing during your free in-home consultation. Volume discounts apply for whole-house projects of five or more windows.

Do motorized blinds need to be plugged in?

Not necessarily. Battery-powered motors are the most common for retrofits and renovations. Rechargeable battery packs last six to twelve months between charges depending on usage. Hardwired motors connect to your home's electrical and never need charging, but require access behind the wall.

Can I still raise and lower motorized blinds manually?

Most motorized shades allow manual operation as a backup. You can raise or lower them by hand if the battery dies or you prefer not to use the remote. The motor will not resist manual movement.

Do motorized blinds work with Alexa and Google Home?

Yes. Hunter Douglas PowerView Gen 3, Somfy, and QMotion all integrate with major voice platforms including Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit. We set up the pairing during installation so voice control works before we leave.

How loud are motorized blinds?

Modern motorized shades are very quiet. Hunter Douglas PowerView motors produce a soft hum that is barely audible in the same room. Older motorized systems were louder, but current technology has largely eliminated motor noise. We bring a working demo to your home so you can hear it firsthand.

Can I program motorized blinds to open and close on a schedule?

Yes. Schedule-based automation is one of the biggest advantages. You can program shades to lower at sunset, rise at sunrise, or follow a custom daily routine. Scene programming lets you create presets like "movie mode" or "morning" that adjust multiple windows at once.

What happens if the power goes out?

Battery-powered motors continue operating during a power outage since they are not connected to your home's electrical. Hardwired motors will not operate until power is restored, but most can still be raised or lowered manually.

How many windows can I motorize in one system?

A single PowerView hub can control up to 30 shades. For larger homes, additional hubs or repeaters extend the range. Somfy systems use a different architecture and can also handle large window counts. We design the system layout during your consultation.

Are motorized blinds safe for children?

Motorized blinds are the safest option available because they eliminate cords entirely. There are no dangling strings, pull cords, or chain loops. The shade is controlled by remote, app, or voice. This makes motorized shades the recommended choice for nurseries, kids' rooms, and playrooms.

Can I add motorized blinds to windows that already have manual shades?

In many cases, yes. Battery-powered retrofit motors can be added to compatible roller shades and cellular shades without replacing the entire product. During your consultation, we check your existing shades to see if a retrofit motor kit is an option before recommending a full replacement.
